109.5 percent Aman seedlings completed in Khulna successfully

Over 100 percent target of cultivating Aman paddy has been achieved in the Khulna agriculture region this season, official sources said here today.

Earlier, the farmers of the region successfully completed 109.5 percent of Aman seedlings on their targeted land in four districts of Khulna agricultural zone during the current season.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials said the farmers transplanted Aman seedlings on 19,213 hectares of land against the targeted land area of 17,552 hectares which was 9.5 percent higher than the targeted land area.

The DAE of Khulna zone has fixed farming target of 2,97,293 hectares of land whereas 2,99,429 hectares of land has been brought under cultivation which is exceeded by 2,136 hectares of land in four districts of Bagerhat, Satkhira, Narail and Khulna in the region.

The target also includes the production of 12, 56,127 metric tones of high-yielding varieties of Aman paddy and 8,37,418 metric tones of clean rice from 2,99,429 hectares of land in all four districts in the region this season.

On an average, the production target includes 4.23 metric tones of Aman paddy and 2.82 clean rice per hectare of land.

Besides, the government has given an incentive of Taka 2.33 Cr among 33,600 farmers.

Talking to the BSS, Additional Director of DAE, Khulna Zone, Agriculturist Mohon Kumar Ghosh said today, with a production target of 4,13,539.5 metric tones of high-yielding varieties of Aman paddy and 2,75,693 metric tones of clean rice, the farming target of land was 93,185 hectares of land which was exceeded by 1605 hectares more land.

In Bagerhat, with a production target of 2,74,432.5metric tones of high-yielding varieties of Aman paddy and1,82,955 metric tones of clean rice, the farming target of land was 73,096 hectares which exceeded by 90 hectares more land.

In Satkhira, with a production target of 3,78,885 metric tones of high-yielding varieties of Aman paddy and2,52,590 metric tones of clean rice, the farming target of land was 88,750 hectares of land exceeded by 18 hectares more land.

In Narail, with a production target of 1,89,270metric tones of high-yielding varieties of Aman paddy and1,26,180 metric tones of clean rice, the farming target of land was 42,262 hectares of land exceeded by 423 hectares more land.

The tender plants of the crop are now growing superbly following recent rainfall making farmers happy after the recent drought-like situation in the region.
