Rajshahi MP sues wife under DSA
However, Ayesha says she is yet to receive the divorce notice
Enamul Haque, the incumbent member of parliament (MP) for Rajshahi 4 constituency, has filed a case under the Digital Security Act (DSA) against his second wife Ayesha Akter Liza on charges of extortion, spreading misinformation and defamation.
Asaduzzaman Asad, Bagmara upazila vice-chairman, and also MP Enamul’s personal assistant filed the case on his [Enamul] behalf at Bagmara police station on Friday.
Bagmara police station OC Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter and said the case mentions Ayesha Akter Liza, second wife of MP Enamul, as the sole accused.
According to the case details, after Enamul sent Ayesha a divorce notice, she demanded Tk1 crore from him to repay her bank loan. As Enamul refused to pay the money, Ayesha began spreading misinformation on social media to tarnish his reputation.
Police are trying to arrest the case accused, the OC added.
Regarding the case, Ayesha Akhter Liza, said: “The false case follows the threats made on my life and for my arrest.
“I am legally still married to Enamul, as I have yet to receive the divorce notice and we have not met for reconciliation. After hearing about my divorce, I posted a picture on Facebook with my husband asking for justice. This alone should not ruin his dignity. Since we are legitimately husband and wife.”
Meanwhile, MP Enamul Haque’s personal assistant and Bagmara Upazila Vice Chairman Asaduzzaman Asad could not be reached over the phone for a comment in regards to the case.
