Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Pankaj Bhattacharya, one of the organisers of the Great Liberation War and Oikya NAP President.

In a message of condolence, she prayed for salvation of his departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Pankaj Bhattacharya breathed his last at a hospital in the city on Sunday midnight at the age of 83.

The veteran politician was admitted to the hospital on April 17. He suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday morning. He was then put on life support.

Born in August 1939, Pankaj grew up in Noapara of Chattogram’s Raozan.
