WHO agrees to vaccinate children aged 12 to 17: Health Minister
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said the government is planning to vaccinate children aged between 12 and 17 years as the World Health Organization(WHO) has agreed on Pfizer jabs for this age group (12 to 17) of kids. “Children will be allowed to complete their registration using birth registration certificate,” he added.
The Minister told a press briefing on Covid-19 vaccine at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) in the capital on Sunday (October 10).
He said, “Children between the ages of 12 and 17 will be vaccinated soon. We are preparing in this regard. These children will be vaccinated Pfizer jabs. We currently have a stock of 60 lakh Pfizer vaccines. We will get another 40 lakh doses soon. There is no vaccine crisis at the moment.”
He further said, “We will be able to give double doses to 8 crore people by December and January and from March to April next year, we will be able to give two doses to another 4 crore people. A total of 12 crore people will be given the second dose by April next year. With this, nearly 70 percent population will come under the coronavirus vaccination programme.”
Zahid Maleque said, “About 16 crore vaccine jabs will come to Bangladesh by January next year including 3 crore in October, 3.75 crore in November, 5 crore in December and 3.75 crore in January.”
