The Election Commission (EC) has postponed the first phase Union Parishad or UP election following the rise in Covid-19 cases across the country.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda made the announcement around 5:30pm on Thursday (April 1).

The elections to 11 municipalities and the by-polls for Lakshmipur-2 constituency, which are also scheduled for April 11.

Earlier, all election commissioners joined a meeting with EC secretaries around 3:00pm. Later, the new decision was taken.
