Professor Akhtaruzzaman has been confirmed as the vice chancellor of Dhaka University for four more years. The confirmation has come over two years after his temporary appointment in September 2017.

A circular signed by the senior secretary of the Secondary and High Secondary Education Division of the education ministry was issued on Sunday (Nov 3) to this effect with immediate effect.

The circular said Prof Akhataruzzaman has been appointed as the vice chancellor from among those in the Senate-nominated panel with the approval of the President and Chancellor of the university as per Dhaka University Ordinance-1973.

As per the conditions of his appointment, the Chancellor can annul the appointment anytime he deems necessary, the vice chancellor will receive the same salary and benefit he is now drawing, and he has to live on the campus.

Prof Akhtaruzzaman is a teacher of Islamic History and Culture of the university.
