President urges cooperation of all concerned for fair elections
President Mohammed Shahabuddin has urged all sides concerned including the Election Commission (EC) and political parties to come forward to hold a free, fair and participatory elections.
The president made the urge when three Election Commissioners and EC Secretary led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal paid a courtesy call to him on Monday (June 19).
He said, “The election is very important in democratic process. Overall cooperation will be provided to ensure peaceful atmosphere during polls for the sake of holding a free and fair election.”
The president said, “Necessary measures must be taken after identifying risky polling centers to make the elections neutral and participatory.”
He expressed hope that the current Election Commission (EC) will be able to hold all elections of the country in free, fair and peaceful manners.
During the meeting, the president was formally congratulated on behalf of the election commission.
CEC Kazi Habibul Awal said, “They are trying to hold all elections in neutral and peaceful manners since taking the charges.”
He further said, “Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used successfully except some technical flaws. Cooperation from the executive department is being received.”
He expected for cooperation and directives from the president to hold the upcoming general election in free and peaceful manners.
