The 23rd budget session of the Jatiya Sangsad for 2023-2024 fiscals began at 5.06 pm on Wednesday (May 31) with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The day’s proceedings began with recitation from the Holy Quran. Prime Minister and leader of the parliament Sheikh Hasina attended the session.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin convened the 23rd session of the parliament exercising the power bestowed upon him as per the clause (1) of article 72 of the constitution.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is set to present the national budget for the next fiscal year (FY24) on June 1. The parliament is expected to pass the proposed budget on June 25.
