Pori Moni’s remand several times: Two judges apologise
Two judges of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court Devobrata Biswas and Atikul Islam have apologised to the High Court for placing actress Pori Moni on remand several times in a case filed under Narcotics Control Act.
The two judges have submitted two separate written explanations mentioning that it was ‘an unwillingly mistake’ to the Supreme Court registrar general’s office.Investigating officer Kazi Golam Mostafa, an inspector of the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who is handling the actor’s drug case, has also appeared in the court to give his explanations.
A bench of Justice Mostafa Jaman and Justice KM Jahid Sarwar Kajol will hear the subject today (Wednesday).
Earlier on 8 September, the High Court (HC) sought explanations from the two magistrates concerned as to why they permitted police to grill actor Pori Moni for the second and third times in the narcotics case. They were asked to submit their explanations within 10 days.
The High Court said the two magistrates will also have to appear before the court if they fail to submit satisfactory explanations while hearing the plea made by the human rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).
