Hefazat to take legal action over Mamunul Haque’s humiliations
Hefazat-e-Islam activists snatched their joint secretary general Mamunul Haque away from a resort in Narayanganj where he was kept in police custody on Saturday after locals found him with a woman. Mawlana Shakhawat Hossain Razi, assistant general secretary of the organisation said it was a planned conspiracy and he said, “They will take legal action over the leaked phone conversation.”
He said this in a press briefing at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital on Sunday (April 04) afternoon.
Maulana Shakhawat Hossain Razi said, “Local police, Jubo League and Chhatra League activists made an attack on noted scholar Maulana Mamunul Haque in a planned way and humiliated him. We strongly protest this.”
When asked whether he (Mamunul) got married to someone else’s wife, the Hefazat leader said, “She was not someone else’s wife, but Mamunul Haque’s second wife. The other’s divorced wife is now married with Mamunul, which is legal in the religion.”
Over the leaked phone conversation, he said, “Magical things are going on over leaked phone conversations in Bangladesh. Phone conversations are being cut short. These are illegal and punishable crimes. We will take legal action against those who are spreading propaganda. Then you will come to know the real thing.”
Asked whether he (Mamunul) got married at all or whether he had a registry document, Maulana Shakhawat Hossain Razi said, “It was his (Mamunul’s) personal matter. Mamunul Haque himself will talk about the matter.”
Leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan unit of Hefazat-e-Islam were present during the briefing.
