The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has for the second time extended the deadline for renewal of fitness, route permit, tax token and driving license of vehicles without penalty.

In the first phase, the deadline was till December 31. But due to the coronavirus, the deadline has been extended to June 30. However, the BRTA has made it clear that the time will not be extended beyond June 30.

In this regard, BRTA Deputy Director (Law) Mohammad Abdur Razzak said, “The extended deadline for renewal of fitness, route permit, tax token and driving license of vehicles without penalty was December 31. But many could not renew the documents because of coronavirus. Considering the issue, the time has been extended till June 30. If anyone does not renew their license within this period, magistrates will jail or fine them according to the law. No concessions will be made after that.”

He said, “You know, magistrates always carry out drives. Action will be taken against those involved if they do not have the vehicle documents or do not renew the fitness of the vehicle or if other documents are not correct.”

Regarding the case, the official said, “A case can be filed under the Motor Vehicle Act if anyone is found without valid documents- registration certificate, fitness certificate, tax token, insurance, route permit for public transport, above all, driver’s license, etc. These are called documentary cases.”

He further said, “Cases will be filed for making mistakes or disobeying traffic laws, driving ignoring traffic signals-lights, driving at dangerously fast speeds, changing lanes from time to time, talking on mobile phones while driving, not having helmets.”

The BRTA deputy director said, “Case may be filed If the headlights of the vehicles are not on or missing, not having ndicator lights, there are no details on the body of the vehicle, no name or address of the owner, the addition or replacement of extra seats in the vehicle.”

Meanwhile, it was learned that since the extension of time, the pressure to pay taxes and fees at the prescribed rate for motor vehicle registration, fitness, road tax, route permit, driving license, transfer of ownership, retro-reflective number plate, digital registration certificate has increased.
