Turkey to stand beside Bangladesh in Rohingya repatriation

Visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said Turkey will stand beside Bangladesh in the repatriation of a huge number of Rohingya people who fled to Bangladesh after facing brutal military crackdown in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.

He said the country will work so that Rohingyas can go back to their homeland Myanmar safely.

The Turkish foreign minister made the assurance after a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen at the state guest house Padma in Dhaka on Wednesday (December 23).

Turkey seeks a peaceful solution to the Rohingya crisis, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said, adding that it is necessary to take suggestions from international organizations including the UN in relocating Rohingyas to Bhasan Char.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit on Tuesday night. Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen received his Turkish counterpart at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 7:30 pm.

The Turkish foreign minister had a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen at 11:30am on Wednesday. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the morning.

Besides, he paid a visit to Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at the capital’s Dhanmondi-32.
