The govt has imposed a 22-day ban on catching Hilsa (popularly known as ilish) to ensure safe spawning of the fish from October 14 to November 4.

In a press release, Md Iftekhar Hossain, public relations officer at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, made the disclosure on Thursday (September 17).

All kinds of Hilsa catching, selling, transporting, hoarding and marketing is totally banned during the time frame.
