The BNP-nominated mayoral aspirant in the election to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Tabith Awal came under an attack allegedly carried out by ruling party leaders and activists while he along with his supporters was campaigning for the election this morning.

Ruling party leaders and activists allegedly carried out an attack on the election campaign led by Tabith Awal around 11:00 am when he and his supporters came down to the streets in Dhaka’s Mirpur area for the campaigning.

Confirming the matter to Shairul Kabir Khan, an official of the BNP chairperson’s press wing, said the incident took place in front of Parbat cinema hall when Tabith Awal and his supporters were on way to Kallyanpur from Mirpur.

The ruling party leaders and activists allegedly swooped on them that left five to six BNP leaders and activists including Tabith Awal injured.

The attackers used homemade weapons, brickbats, and eggs during the attack, he said.

When contacted, Tabith claimed he received minor injuries.
