August 8 is the most mournful and scandalous day in the history of the Bengali nation. The best Bengali of all time, the architect of independence, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was the victim of the brutal murder in the family on August 7 in Kalra. The killers not only killed Bangabandhu, but they also killed him in the hands of Bangabandhu’s companion, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, Bangabandhu’s son Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal, children Sheikh Russell, two sons-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosie Jamal. The family members and relatives of Bangabandhu’s brother Sheikh Nasser, brother-in-law Abdur Rab Sarniabat, nephew youth leader and journalist Sheikh Fazlul Huq Moni, his nephew Arju Mani and Colonel Jamil were not spared from the brutal and abominable killings.

The August 5 incident was a conspiracy of the defeated forces of the liberation war. These conspirators wanted to hang the soul of the Bengali nation in the process of killing the father of the nation. By this incident, the politics of murder and conspiracy are rooted in the neck of the nation. There is also the attempt to turn the wheel of history. As a result of the freedom struggle and the War of Liberation, the Bengali nation, Bangladesh and Bangabandhu became synonymous. He is a friend to the people. He is the Father of the nation. He is the founder of independent Bangladesh to foreigners. About this, foreign journalist Sibyl Dunn said, “In the thousand years of Bengali history, Sheikh Mujib was the only leader who was a true Bengali in blood, colour, language, agriculture and birth. His long salubrious body, thunderous applause and enchanting personality and courage to lead people have transformed him into one of the rare superpowers of this age.

The black chapter of change of power in the unconstitutional way of the 5th, August 5, has resulted in frequent disasters in national politics. They issued the infamous Indemnity Ordinance to stop the trial of Bangabandhu assassination. The people of Bangladesh did not let that conspiracy succeed. The Indemnity Ordinance was repealed in the 5th. Already, the trial of Bangabandhu murder and five of the killers have been executed. Attempts are being made to bring the convicted murderers from abroad into the country on a legal basis. The members of the murderous group that tried to erase his ideals from the heart of the Bengali nation by killing Bangabandhu did not succeed.

One of the objectives of establishing Bangladesh was to end inequality and eradicate exploitation. Since independence, Bangabandhu has taken various steps for the economic and exploitation of the country. But before the implementation, he was killed in the hands of the killer. Which is celebrated as a day of mourning for the Bengali nation? Bangabandhu wanted Bangla language to be the best identity of Bengali civilization in the World Assembly. He was the first to address the United Nations in Bengali. This is the official international recognition of the Bangla language after Rabindranath received the Nobel Literature Award.

Bangabandhu sacrificed his dream in pursuit and struggle. In the blood of his own chest, in the blood of his own family, he has written a new history of Bengal, for the new generation of independent Bengal. The two names of Bangladesh Bangabandhu are identical today. Bangabandhu is eternally in Bengal’s independence, language, society, culture and civilization. He did not die. He is dead. There is no Bangabandhu but his ideals are sustained in the heart of every Bengali. But not just captive in the circle of formality but the ideology of Bangabandhu in our thinking and actions and implementation of it is a commitment of mourning day. On National Day of Mourning, we would like to honour all those who martyred, including the architect of the independent Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and wished peace of their soul.
