Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar has admitted that he is interested in becoming the country\u2019s chief selector.<\/p>\n
Akhtar\u2019s comments come after Inzamam\u2019s tenure as chief selector came to an end on Wednesday as he stepped down from the position.<\/p>\n
If he were to be appointed chief selector, Akhtar revealed that he would put a lot of investment and faith in Pakistan\u2019s up and coming talent.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I get the job [of chief selector], anyone that has the talent should get ready\u2026 investments will be made on these youngsters for three years, and I will work to provide them [with] proper chances in the academy and camp,\u201d he was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t care about averages; I am only concerned with the number of matches the player has won for their side. We would need to set up an entire batting line-up that can play white ball cricket.<\/p>\n
In addition to the chief selector role, Akhtar added that he would also want to serve as a mentor for the players in the national team.<\/p>\n
He added that he would also adopt a strict policy on the number of domestic Twenty20 leagues Pakistan players would be allowed to participate in.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would not allow any player to use Pakistan as a tool to get league contracts. The player [can] only play two leagues and earn money,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also believes that Pakistan should have different captains and teams for each format.<\/p>\n
