Mamunul Haque said, \u201cFor last several days, Islam-loving people have been agitated over the issue of constructing a sculpture of Bangabandhu at Dhaka\u2019s Dholaipar. From the Islamic point of view, the construction of sculpture of human or any animal is a non-Islamic culture and the scholars are protesting against the practice. In that context, I have also spoken out against the construction of sculpture. But a vested quarter is trying to brand this as antipathy against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. My statement in this regard is unequivocal- I fully respect the great leader and architect of Bangladesh\u2019s independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and pray for the forgiveness of his departed soul. Our statement is against the sculpture, not any way against Bangabandhu.\u201d<\/p>\n
