The vaccine was tested on monkeys before being applied to humans.

Although the coronavirus was widely injected into the monkey’s body after the vaccine, it did not cause the infection, scientists said. India wants to start mass production of the vaccine in the next four to five months as it is effective in monkey bodies.

The Serum Institute of India, India’s largest vaccine manufacturer, said on Tuesday that at least 60 million doses of the potential coronavirus vaccine, developed by scientists at Oxford University in the UK, were planned to be produced this year.

Adar Punawala, CEO of Siram, said the vaccine, called Chadox 1 Encov-19, has not yet been proven as a coronary vaccine. Even then, the serum institute decided to produce the vaccine because it was effective in monkeys and because of the progress of testing in humans.

The Oxford-made vaccine was administered to the bodies of six Old World monkeys at the Rocky Mountain Laboratory at the National Institutes of Health in the western U.S. state of Montana last month, the New York Times reported. Later, a large amount of novel coronavirus was introduced into the bodies of these six monkeys. Even after 28 days, the monkeys were perfectly healthy.

The New York Times quoted Vincent Munster, a U.S. researcher involved in the Oxford vaccine application, as saying.

Kovid-19, a disease caused by a new coronavirus with respiratory problems, has so far infected more than 3.1 million people worldwide. Besides, more than 2 lakh 18 thousand people lost their lives. The number of infections and deaths is on the rise all over the world.

“Oxford has a bunch of highly qualified and large-scale scientists … that’s why we said we’re with it and we’re confident about the vaccine,” Punawala, Serum’s chief executive, told Reuters by telephone.

“As private companies, we are not responsible to government investors or bankers,” he said. For this, along with other commercial products and projects, I can take a little risk in it.

There are currently about 100 projects underway around the world to develop a coronavirus vaccine. Various biotech companies and researchers have been working day and night to develop corona vaccines. About five of these have already been experimentally applied to the human body; Which is known as Face One Clinical Trial.

Punawala said the trial of the Oxford vaccine was over by next September and he hoped it would be successful. But scientists at Oxford said last week that initial testing was not their main purpose in showing whether the vaccine was effective. Instead, it is important to see if the vaccine has increased immunity or if there are side effects.

Rich tycoon Cyrus Punawala, owner of the Serum Institute, the world’s largest Indian vaccine manufacturer, plans to produce the vaccine at two plants in the western city of Pune. If all goes well, Serum has set a production target of 400 million doses by next year.

Punamwala, chief executive of SIRAM, said most of the vaccine initially produced before going abroad would go to the people of our country. However, Serum will leave it to the Indian government to decide which country will receive the vaccine, when and in what quantity.

He said the price of the serum vaccine has been fixed at Rs 1,000. But the government can give it to the people for free if it wants. Punawala said there is close liaison with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office on vaccine production activities. However, Punawala hopes that the Indian government will help with the production cost of the vaccine.

The head of serum said that in the next five months, serum will produce 30 to 50 lakh doses every month. Serum will cost 20 to 40 crore rupees. The government is happy to share some risks and funds with us. But we have not reached an agreement yet.

Punawala said Serum has partnered with US biotech company Kodagenix and Austria’s Themis for two more vaccines for Kovid-19. Serum will announce the arrival of a fourth vaccine in the next few weeks.

He said Siram’s executive board meeting last week decided to invest Rs 6 billion to build a new factory. This plant will only produce coronavirus vaccines.
